Sugar silo
Sugar silos store sugar for industry as well as other types of sugar. Silos are large storage containers for spreading materials, which are dry substances that should not come into direct contact with moisture or liquids.
Sugar silos in the food industry
As the name suggests, sugar silos store sugar. It’s important for the silos to be 100% impermeable so that no moisture enters, which would otherwise cause the sugar to perish. Silos are often very tall and are usually firmly anchored in one place. In industry, they’re usually part of a production cycle and therefore connected to other machines, tanks or similar.
Sugar
Sugar is produced from sugar cane or sugar beet. Sugar beet is mainly cultivated in Russia, France and the US, while sugar cane is frequently found in Brazil, India and China. There are different types of sugar, which range from liquid to dry sugar. Sugar silos are largely used for dry sugar. This can be brown sugar, fine or coarse, refined sugar, rock candy or sugar powder. Sugar beet syrup tends to be stored in tanks.
Sugar is used in many areas of industry, particularly in the foodstuff industry, where it’s found in almost all foodstuffs even if it’s only in small portions.
